It is our goal is to promote Solar…and to this end we offer you the best possible pricing by passing along our Grade A wholesale rates to all our customers. We include the invoice from our supplier as there are no hidden costs and then we add our administration fee of 15.5% with a 3% discount offered on cash transactions (wire transfer or checks). The administration fee is to cover the costs of running our Nonprofit Society along with a commission for our Sales Associates AND in some cases this administration fee may be reduced.
Step One - Let's hear from you
What is it you are after, what are you trying to achieve? Offset your electricity bills, eliminate them entirely, sell electricity back to the grid, go off-grid or simply purchase specific solar PV equipment. We can demystify solar PV for you and set you on the right track. Once we know what your goals and expectations are, we can move you on to step 2. Keep in mind that step 1 through 3 are complimentary and without obligation and no money is required from you unless you decide to purchase equipment or a complete system from us.
Step Three - Site Assessment
So you now have had a chance to review the preliminary pricing & options and you are interested in exploring things further. At this point we may conduct a site visit and prepare a formal Solar Site Assessment to get a better read on your solar potential by looking at your site’s shading and other conditions and also looking at the as-is site conditions like roof structure & electrical.
Step Five - Applications for Permit
The permitting required for a solarPV installation will depend on what is required by your province and local jurisdiction. In BC all solarPV installations require an electrical permit from the BC Safety Authority. Some parts of the province may also require a building or development permit so you must check with your local building department. So far on Vancouver Island, for example, no building or development permitting is required for a solarPV installation.</p> <p>If your system is to be connected to the electrical grid (i.e. a grid tie system), you must apply to the utility owner (usually BC Hydro) for permission to do so. This requires an initial net metering application followed by submission of your final electrical inspection report indicating your system meets with the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
Step Two - Preliminary Budget & Solar Review
Much of this can be done remotely using Google Earth and Solar Databases, to give you some idea of the potential and suitability of your site for solar. We can also give you a rough idea of what your budget should be to meet your goals and expectations and what options to consider.
Step Four - Design & Quote & Ship
Following the site assessment, if we are both in agreement that solar PV is right for you, we will provide you with a system design (or advise you on what specific equipment to purchase) and a quote as to what the equipment or system will cost you and a rough estimate as to what your installation costs may be (N.B. GabEnergy does not do system installation but will advise you on your installation options from DIY to use of local electricians and tradespeople).</p> <p>If you decide to go ahead and purchase equipment or a complete system from GES, we require you to sign a contract, which outlines the responsibilities of both parties (refer to GES “Client Agreement” form) and payment must be received in full before any equipment is shipped.
Step Six - Installation & Online Monitoring
All customers of GES are responsible for their own installation. GES, however, is pleased to advise our clients on the best options available, including DIY and contractor installations, depending on their location. GES can also advise on various options that are available to the client for monitoring of their system’s performance, including on-line continuous monitoring.
